Students also were introduced to “peer critiquing”. They seemed really excited about this essay assignment, and they enjoyed sharing their perspectives of how adults and teenagers view things differently. Using the 4-Square Writing Technique, Students wrote essays entitled “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. Describe how fossils show evidence of the changing surface and climate of the Earth. Describe processes that change rocks and the surface of the earth. Classify rocks by their process of formation. Investigate the contribution of minerals to rock composition. Remember to check Edmodo for my homework. I plan on using this resource inside and outside of class. Students will also be able to read the book online and be able to submit assessments. Students will be able to have access to more interactive labs, an audio version of the book, section summaries, vocabulary word, and the interactive notebook. Students were given their usernames and passwords which should be located in the front cover their journal. Parents, I have signed 6th grade up for access to the online textbook. Our scientist will also need to know the names of common minerals and the name of common rocks. Students will need to understand that minerals are natural formed, inorganic solids that has a definite chemical structure, they make up all rocks, minerals are general created from cooling magma, and that quartz and feldspar are the most common minerals in all three types of rocks. Students will create deeper connections to minerals as they related to rocks by review games, interactive notes, and a treasure hunt for knowledge activity. This week we will review rocks and minerals for preparation for the Rock and minerals unit test on Oct 8, 2015.
